Youth Leader of the Month

Jim Lehikoinen is the May youth leader of the month. "Big Jim" has been a part of Bayside youth group for several years serving as our bus driver and a senior high small group leader. Jim is married to Joleen (who once served many years as a youth leader as well) and they have three kids: Shannon, Amber and Tyler. Shannon graduated out of youth group in 2008, Amber is in the senior high and Tyler is in the junior high. Jim is a firefighter for the Superior Fire Department and loves to shop the clearance rack for deals. Seriously!
Some of his favorites:
Food - Lasagna
Cereal - Honey Granola with Oats
Candy - Snickers
Snack Food - Chicken Wings
Color - Green
Movie - Mulan or The Terminator
Outdoor Activity - Fishing, hunting, and sports
Magazine - Popular Science
Sports Team - Green Bay Packers
Bible Verse - James 1:26-27
Be sure to thank Jim for his years of service to our youth group and church. He is an important part of our youth group! Thanks Jim for all you do!

Galatians
We have been journeying through the book of Galatians over the last couple months on Wednesday nights. It has been an interesting time and has produced some very good discussions during small group time. Our challenge for you this week is to read through Galatians chapter 4 and 5. As you read through it answer these questions:
-What parts of these verses stick out to you?
-Which verse of chapter 4 or 5 is your favorite? Why?
-Why do you think these chapters important?
-What is God saying to you through these verses?
Go ahead and answer these questions in a comment on this post. Also, don't forget to comment about what color scheme you would like to see on the blog! (see blog posting from Tuesday, May 11). Have a great weekend!

Changing Colors
Did you notice the change right away? What used to be gray has turned into white. I was just looking around and thought it would be nice to change the look up a bit. But it got me thinking...crazy thinking. What if the students chose the color scheme of the blog? So what if? I guess it would not be the end of the world. So here goes...
Post a comment on this blog post and suggest the color scheme that you would like to see for the blog. I will wait and see how many of you have an opinion in this area. I know for sure that Amber will not be choosing red! Once I get some feedback, we may have a vote or something. And then we can change it and keep it for awhile. So if you want it to be Packers theme, give me the green and yellow suggestion. If you are a Vikings person, give me the purple and yellow suggestion. If you are a rainbow crazy, give me the red, orange, yellow, green, blue and indigo suggestion! Maybe you have other thoughts. Pink and black, blue and gold, Columbia blue and white (Go Spartans!), whatever you like. Just make a suggestion and we'll see where this goes. Have fun!

Fluffy Noodle
I was just thinking the other day about how much fun we had at this year's retreat. As I was going through some pictures from the retreat I came accross this photo of our fluffy noodle competitors:

Do you remember the fluffy noodle game? Who remembers the final score? What were the team names? What team were you on? I do remember that the game was close and even went into overtime. I also remember that Kevin and Steve were the coaches. And that Scott and Jim were heavily involved in the game action! But most of all I remember how much fun everyone had!

What are the Christ-following essentials?
We have been going through the book of Galatians on Wednesdays in youth group. Last week as we discussed Galatians 2 the question came up of, "What are the things that all Christians must agree on regarding the faith?" In our discussions we came up with a short list but it is certainly not exhaustive. Here is what we came up with:
As you look over this list, is there anything you think that should be added? Why is it important for us to agree on these things? What if someone claims Christ yet disagrees with these statements? How do we deal with our differences of belief? Come back on Wednesday as we continue to dig through the book of Galatians to find answers on rising up in our faith!

- There is one God.
- Jesus was God, and Son of God.
- Jesus was sinless.
- Jesus was crucified physically and died literally.
- Jesus rose from the dead to new life.
- The bible is the final authority and God’s perfect word.
- All of us have sinned.
- God is perfect and created everything.
- Salvation is by faith.
- There is only one way to heaven - faith in Jesus Christ
