Seriously, what is going on here?  Philip looks very uncomfortable.  Hunter usually gets along with Philip just fine.  And can anyone identify the guy in the maroon shirt?

By the way, this was at our annual girls and guys night out.

19.98

Did you know...that the average American family is wealthier than 95% of the rest of the world?  Think about that for a moment.  Just think about it.

You are probably an average American.  That means that you are wealthier than 95% of the rest of the world!  Millions of people, billions of people across the globe are in poverty and much worse situations than you.  Makes you think twice about complaining over the dinner menu that you are looking at today, right?

Sometimes when we think about the reality of this world it makes us feel like there is nothing we can do.  That there is such a gap and it is too much work to make a difference.  But we are wrong.  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!  Even if it is in only 1 life!

Recently our youth group was challenged by one of its own.  Falyn has challenged us in 2 ways.  First of all we are going to collect extra change and dollars each week in youth group for the next few weeks.  Then we are going to select a gift that we can give to an area/child/family in poverty somewhere across the globe.  Maybe we will buy a carton of milk for a family in need, maybe we'll collect enough to buy a goat for a small village in need, or maybe we'll collect enough to build a pond to provide water for a community in need.

The second challenge is one that Falyn is doing this year for Christmas.  She has asked her parents to take the money they would spend on her for Christmas presents and send it across the globe to help others in poverty.  So her challenge was for each of us to consider doing the same thing.  Or even a portion of the same thing.  Take one present.  Or a small amount of what your parents will spend.  Or sacrifice something of your own to make a difference - even if it is in just 1 life!

And 19.98 you ask?  That's how much we collected on the first night we announced this in senior high youth group, without any warning or time to plan or prepare.  So now you know.  The next time you come to youth group bring some extra change and let's make a difference!

Thanks x2

Well my last post was a thanks to those that helped at the Harvest home.  Many of you came and served with great attitudes and it was an awesome night.

Only 3 days later we had another BIG event at church.  A youth missions trip fundraiser called the Bayside Bountiful Boutique.  We needed more help - and once again many of you served with a great attitude!

Thank you to ALL you helped serve both Friday night and all day on Saturday at the event.  We had students setting up, packaging bake sale items, helping move boxes and totes all over the church, sitting at the bake sell table, working in the cafe, making walking tacos, tearing down tables and chairs and even moving hangers.  That was hard work!

So thank you again!  All of you (including Ben - pictured above) did a great job and made me very proud to be your youth pastor.

Thank you

I want to thank all of the students who came and helped serve at our Harvest Home Celebration.  We had about 30 students total that were serving!  It was a lot of fun and you all did such a great job!

We served dinner plates, we served from the drink carts and we served pies.  We also ate a great meal and had some amazing pie after.  And a few of you even got to eat whipped cream straight from the can!

Thanks again for being there.  You all are the best!

Harvest Home Celebration

This Wednesday, November 14 is our annual Harvest Home Celebration!  All students in 5th-12th grade are invited to come out to Bayside to help serve!

The event starts at 6pm with appetizers.  Then there will be a short program in the sanctuary.  After the program we will have a nice dinner.  The youth group (students and leaders) will be serving the meal for the dinner.  As a student all you have to do is show up and serve.  We typically have students bringing plates of food out to tables or bringing the drink cart around and filling drinks for people.  Very easy, very fun, and very helpful.

Please come out and join us for a night to serve God and thank him for all that he has done in our church AND our youth group over the last year!

See you tomorrow night!

You've got questions? We've got answers...

If you have questions, it's time to get answers.  Maybe you have questions about life, questions about faith, questions about God or questions about Jesus.  Maybe you don't quite understand the Bible or even Christianity.  That's okay!

But if you're in 9th-12th grade - you need to come to SR HIGH youth group on Sunday night.  We will begin asking questions and start a new series on Questions and Answers.  We will be meeting this Sunday, November 11, from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

Your first question may be "Why is there a picture of this guy on the blog?"  And you will only find out if you come on Sunday night!  Hope to see you there.

Whose youth group do these kids belong to?

Remember that one time at Wood Lake Bible Camp when we all rolled around in the mud and took a picture together?

Just a reminder that we do have SR High youth group on Sunday night - tonight!  We will be discussing another myth about Jesus, playing some games and of course doing a quiz.

Hope you can make it.

Also, after yg we will have an informational meeting about a potential youth group mission trip next summer.  So if you are at all interested in going on a mission trip or hearing more about one, come and join us right after youth group tonight.

See you then!

November is here - what are you thankful for?

I know it is so cliche, but this is the time of year when we think about what we are thankful for.  So make a comment and let us know - what are you thankful for this year?
