Bayside Bowl VII - Results

On Saturday we had another awesome Bayside Bowl.  It was the 7th annual event and we had the most students ever participating!  We had over 40 students playing in the football tournament and more than 50 that attended the event.  We had pizza, games, prizes and the big football tournament.  Once again Team Extreme (pictured above) won the Bayside Bowl.  This was their second year in a row winning!  Overall we had 6 teams in the tournament and it was a lot of fun.

There are some pictures below.  But come to youth group this week to see more!

Congratulations to Team Extreme!

Taming the tongue

Last night at youth group the topic was "the mouth," or more specifically - your tongue!  We read from James 3:3-10:
When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

This was a great lesson that all of us need to learn and work on.  We talked about the 4 dangers of the uncontrolled tongue - Gossip, Anger, Swearing and Lying.  But we also talked about the things we can do to keep our tongues under control:

-Commit to using your tongue for good
-Ask God for help
-Consider the consequences
-Have others hold you accountable

It was a great lesson - and as you can see from the pictures of Matt and Grace, we had some fun too!

Super Bowl winners

As most of you know, last night was the Super Bowl.  The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 34-31.  Joe Flacco (pictured above) was named Most Valuable Player.

We had a Super Bowl party at youth group last night and I would like to announce the winners of our contests:

Game Prediction - Score and team that won:
Hunter Tunell

Hunter predicted that Baltimore would win 35-27 and was by far the closest to the actual score.

Most Valuable Player pick:
Tina Lurndal

Tina predicted correctly that Joe Flacco would win the MVP.

Gatorade color pick:
NO ONE!

They did not dump Gatorade (or water for that matter) on the winning coach!

Total number of added numbers from final score:
NO ONE!

The final score was 34-31 and if you add up those numbers you get 11.  Nobody predicted 11 for this guess.  The closest was Tina who predicted 14.

Commercial for the 2 minute warning:
NO ONE!

The commercial at the 2 minute warning was for Samsung Galaxy and no one guessed that.

It was a fun Super Bowl party and I am glad that those who came out had a great time.
Winners can collect their prizes next Sunday night at youth group.
