Night at the White House!

It has been so long - so many months since our last Night at the White House event.  In fact it has been over a year since we had one.  But now we can officially announce that we will be having Senior High Night at the White House on Friday, May 18.  This event will go from 7pm until 10pm and will be held at Pastor Tom and Sarah's house:

Let me explain.  As you can see from above our house is not white.  It is actually Castlestone.  Seriously.  But you probably just thought it was tan or a light shade of brown.  However, it used to be white and was white during the era that a man named Bush was serving as the President of the USA, and living in THE White House.  So when we decided to have youth group parties at our house it made sense to call it The Night at the White House.  Now that our house changed colors it just doesn't make sense to call it The Night at the Castlestone House, does it?

So we invite all senior high students to come to our house for food, games, videos, movies, wii, dancing and a huge party.  Friday, May 18.  7pm-10pm.  At the White House.  That is actually Castlestone.

Yep.

What do you want to do this summer?

This is a rare opportunity that I ask such a question.  We are in the planning stages of youth group stuff for the summer.  We have plans for what youth group will look like, but we are still thinking and praying about what special events we might have.  We already are planning on a Guys and Girls Night Out to start the summer off. And we always encourage all students to attend Wood Lake Bible Camp during summer camps in July.  But there might be room for one more big event for youth group.

So, got any ideas?  And NEW ideas?  There is the old faithful trip to Valleyfair.  Or we could potentially do a lock-in.  At Bayside?  Or at the Encounter Skate Park and gym in Duluth?

What do you think?  Make a post on this comment and share your thoughts.  We will take them into consideration as we plan and discuss our summer for youth group.

E3 this Sunday

This Sunday we invite all students to come and be a part of E3.  It is happening on Sunday night from 6:30pm-8:00pm.  We will not have our normal youth group activities for SR HIGH - however, all SR HIGH students are invited and encouraged to come to E3.  There will be free food afterwards!  E3 is a worship event that we have been hosting at Bayside for several years now.  It is meant to bring loud, contemporary, upbeat worship to all who want to draw closer to the throne of God.

It's going to be a great night.  Hope to see you there!

Old picture fun!

It has been fun going through some old photos of youth group events. This one I found in the pile of pictures from our 2007 Fall Unity Retreat at Flaming Pine Youth Camp. Pictured above are Becca Tunell and Falyn McCotter. In this picture they would have been in 6th grade! So this was their first ever youth retreat. Oh how fast you students grow up! Becca and Falyn are now in 10th grade!

Remember that one time...

If you couldn't tell by some of my posts, I've been going through some old youth group pictures. The photo above is from our 2007 Fall Unity Retreat. We had 22 students and 5 adults and we went to Flaming Pine Youth Camp.

Anyone remember this trip? Can you pick out students in this picture? There are a small number of students that are still in youth group. And a few that you might recognize. As well as a current youth leader hidden as a student...guess who?

I don't want to grow up...

Have you ever said that? Usually when we are a kid we say we can't wait to grow up. But sometimes we say "I don't want to grow up." Toys R Us even made a song about it for their commercials.

Hunter and Nathan - aren't you glad you grew up? This picture is stamped April 27, 2007. It was the night of our youth group scavenger hunt. Because their dads were helping chaperone that night, these two kids got in on the action. Hunter is in 4th grade, Nathan is in 2nd grade!

Also, check out the old youth room wall! Blast from the past.

My first attempt at the half mile...

Well today I went out to accomplish another goal for my 12 goals in 2012. Although, I knew that I wouldn't accomplish my goal today. It was more of the start of accomplishing my goal. This goal is to run 800 meters (approx half a mile) in 2:15. When I was in college I ran the 800 in about 2 minutes. That was over 10 years ago! So my goal is to run it in a reasonable 2:15.

Above is a video of me finishing the 800. It was my trial run to see how much work I have in front of me. I haven't been running all winter and have been out of shape since the fall soccer season. So it is going to take me awhile to get back into shape. As you can see from the pictures below, I ran the 800 today in 2:49. So I have the rest of the year to cut off 34 seconds from my time. I can do it!

Thanks to Erick Tunell who came out with me for my trial run. He cheered me on, timed me, and took the photos and video. The plan is to attempt the run again in about 2 months, after some training, to see how well I can improve and how much of the 34 seconds I can cut off.

We'll see!

Easter at Bayside - can you help?

I want to invite everyone to our Easter services at Bayside. There is no school on Friday, so you are welcome to join us for Good Friday service at noon at Bayside tomorrow.

Our Easter Sunday will start with a breakfast at 8:00am followed by our normal services at 9:00am and 10:30am. We will NOT have SR HIGH youth group on Sunday night.

We are looking for 8 students to help serve beverages during breakfast and clean tables after breakfast. If you are willing and able to help, please let me know ASAP. You can comment on this post, send me a message on facebook, or contact me on my cell phone. This WILL count towards your Wood Lake Bible Camp scholarship if you are applying for that.

Thanks!

Hope you all have a great Easter weekend!
