Final total is in...

I'm proud to say that we met our goal of collecting over $100 for our Christmas gift to the poor.  Last night the AMP and JR HIGH groups added another $27.75 to make our total...

$117.49

Thank you to all for your contributions.  We will be choosing our gift at the end of the year youth group party - BATTLE 2012.  Sunday night, December 30, from 6:30pm-midnight.  For all 7th-12th graders.

89.74

Well tonight we had a lot of fun at our SR HIGH Christmas Party.  We also collected money for our Christmas gifts going to poverty overseas.  It was the last time that SR HIGH would collect and we brought in another $27.53 to up our total to $89.74!

We are going to give one final chance to AMP and JR HIGH this Wednesday night at the Christmas party.  We only need another $10.26 to make $100!!!!  WE CAN DO IT!

There are many gifts that we can choose from them - including getting a bunch of ducks for a family.  A duck or multiple ducks would be a huge benefit to a family in poverty as ducks can lay eggs and provide much food for a family in need!  Just one example of how we can make an impact with a little CHANGE!

Awesome!

We will have treats, games, gifts and so much fun!

Also, remember it will be the last night that we collect money for our Christmas gift to the poor.  So far we have collected $62.21.  Bring your extra change or coins and let's get as much as possible!

See you Sunday!

Mello Yello or Barq's? That is the question...

As you know our pop machine changed about a year or two ago when we added water to the options.  Now recently Coca-Cola has allowed us to add blue Powerade to the machine.  I like this because it is another non-carbonated option.

With this new coming change, we may have to remove one of the carbonated options.  The lowest seller is Sprite, but we would like to keep that as a non-caffeinated carbonated option.  Are you still with me?  So the next two lowest sellers are Mello Yello and Barq's Root Beer.  Both are great options.  Both seem to be well liked by you - the students.

So I thought we would have a poll.  On the right side of the blog there is a poll question and opportunity for you to vote for your choice between the two.  We may have to say goodbye to one - so vote as often as you'd like for your favorite.

Youth Group Cancelled for tonight - December 9

We are NOT having youth group tonight.

As much as I'd love to see you all tonight, we are in the middle of a small snow storm.  The roads are slick and some cars have already been in the ditch.  Especially with many students driving themselves to youth group, we just do not want to risk anyone getting in trouble on the road.

Youth Leaders - our meeting tonight is cancelled also.  I'll be in touch this week about what is next.

So for all you students - we will see you next Sunday night!  Remember it will be our SR HIGH Christmas Party.  Bring a wrapped white elephant gift to exchange.  And bring your extra change and coins for our final collection for our Christmas gift for the poor.

If you have any questions you can email or call Pastor Tom.

Thanks!

44.64

You may or may not have heard that we are collecting money for a cause this Christmas season!  One of the students of our youth group (Falyn) has challenged us to collect some extra cash and choose a gift to give to someone in need across the world.  We started 2 weeks ago and collected $19.98 without any warning.  Then last Sunday we collected again and received $24.66 more!  So after two weeks we have a total of $44.64.

We will collect one more time next week.  So look around the house for some extra change and bring it next time you come to youth group.

We also will be choosing our gift from a catalog of possibilities.  There are many things that our money can go towards and we look forward to blessing someone in need!

Join us this Christmas season in giving!

19.98

Did you know...that the average American family is wealthier than 95% of the rest of the world?  Think about that for a moment.  Just think about it.

You are probably an average American.  That means that you are wealthier than 95% of the rest of the world!  Millions of people, billions of people across the globe are in poverty and much worse situations than you.  Makes you think twice about complaining over the dinner menu that you are looking at today, right?

Sometimes when we think about the reality of this world it makes us feel like there is nothing we can do.  That there is such a gap and it is too much work to make a difference.  But we are wrong.  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!  Even if it is in only 1 life!

Recently our youth group was challenged by one of its own.  Falyn has challenged us in 2 ways.  First of all we are going to collect extra change and dollars each week in youth group for the next few weeks.  Then we are going to select a gift that we can give to an area/child/family in poverty somewhere across the globe.  Maybe we will buy a carton of milk for a family in need, maybe we'll collect enough to buy a goat for a small village in need, or maybe we'll collect enough to build a pond to provide water for a community in need.

The second challenge is one that Falyn is doing this year for Christmas.  She has asked her parents to take the money they would spend on her for Christmas presents and send it across the globe to help others in poverty.  So her challenge was for each of us to consider doing the same thing.  Or even a portion of the same thing.  Take one present.  Or a small amount of what your parents will spend.  Or sacrifice something of your own to make a difference - even if it is in just 1 life!

And 19.98 you ask?  That's how much we collected on the first night we announced this in senior high youth group, without any warning or time to plan or prepare.  So now you know.  The next time you come to youth group bring some extra change and let's make a difference!

Thanks x2

Well my last post was a thanks to those that helped at the Harvest home.  Many of you came and served with great attitudes and it was an awesome night.

Only 3 days later we had another BIG event at church.  A youth missions trip fundraiser called the Bayside Bountiful Boutique.  We needed more help - and once again many of you served with a great attitude!

Thank you to ALL you helped serve both Friday night and all day on Saturday at the event.  We had students setting up, packaging bake sale items, helping move boxes and totes all over the church, sitting at the bake sell table, working in the cafe, making walking tacos, tearing down tables and chairs and even moving hangers.  That was hard work!

So thank you again!  All of you (including Ben - pictured above) did a great job and made me very proud to be your youth pastor.

Thank you

I want to thank all of the students who came and helped serve at our Harvest Home Celebration.  We had about 30 students total that were serving!  It was a lot of fun and you all did such a great job!

We served dinner plates, we served from the drink carts and we served pies.  We also ate a great meal and had some amazing pie after.  And a few of you even got to eat whipped cream straight from the can!

Thanks again for being there.  You all are the best!

Harvest Home Celebration

This Wednesday, November 14 is our annual Harvest Home Celebration!  All students in 5th-12th grade are invited to come out to Bayside to help serve!

The event starts at 6pm with appetizers.  Then there will be a short program in the sanctuary.  After the program we will have a nice dinner.  The youth group (students and leaders) will be serving the meal for the dinner.  As a student all you have to do is show up and serve.  We typically have students bringing plates of food out to tables or bringing the drink cart around and filling drinks for people.  Very easy, very fun, and very helpful.

Please come out and join us for a night to serve God and thank him for all that he has done in our church AND our youth group over the last year!

See you tomorrow night!

You've got questions? We've got answers...

If you have questions, it's time to get answers.  Maybe you have questions about life, questions about faith, questions about God or questions about Jesus.  Maybe you don't quite understand the Bible or even Christianity.  That's okay!

But if you're in 9th-12th grade - you need to come to SR HIGH youth group on Sunday night.  We will begin asking questions and start a new series on Questions and Answers.  We will be meeting this Sunday, November 11, from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

Your first question may be "Why is there a picture of this guy on the blog?"  And you will only find out if you come on Sunday night!  Hope to see you there.

Skit Night!

Halloween is coming up on Wednesday, but we had our own costume party (sort of) on Sunday night at Senior High  youth group.  We had skit night!  We broke into a couple groups and each had costumes and props to bring creativity to an idea - actually to a myth.  The myth that Jesus was just a "good teacher."

At first it didn't seem like any of you wanted to be a part of it.  However, by the end of the night most of the students were able to make it fun and be creative.  Above, Tina and Anna acting as extra demons.

We had a good time and thanks for playing along!  Above, it's Kalven Bonin giving his best Toescum!

Each group was led by two directors.  Here we have our dubious duo of Hanna and Jason leading the group.  Jaycie looks too relaxed.

Above, Becca narrates while Hailey does her best as the chairman of the demonic committee!

Tyler sporting the perfect eyewear.

Thanks again everyone for participating!

Ukraine Mission Trip information

As of right now we are planning a youth group missions trip to Ukraine for the summer of 2013!  Here at Bayside we have a special connection with Ukraine and that includes a sister church that we have visited several times.  Our plan is to send a group of youth students and some adults from Bayside to our sister church in Ukraine for a week of ministry next summer.

Would you consider going to Ukraine to serve God and the people of our sister church and its community?

Please pray about it.  We will have an informational meeting to see how many students are interested.  The meeting will be on Sunday night, November 4, at 8:00pm.  Right after SR HIGH youth group.  So please plan on attending to learn more about this trip.  If you cannot attend the meeting please just let Pastor Tom know that you are still interested.

Thanks!

Campus Missionaries

We are challenging and encouraging every student who is a part of Bayside youth group to make a commitment to be a Campus Missionary this school year.  We have talked about it at youth group and now are giving you the opportunity to rise to the occasion.

A Campus Missionary is a student who commits to:

-Pray
-Live
-Tell
-Serve
-Give

Very simple.  Very real.

I shared some verses last night at SR HIGH youth group and wanted to put them on the blog for anyone to read and study as you consider becoming a Campus Missionary:

Romans 8:28
Hebrews 11:6
Colossians 3:23-24
Esther 4:12-14
1 Timothy 4:12

If you have any questions about becoming a Campus Missionary, please let me know.  Remember we have a retreat to train, equip and prepare you for this commitment and that retreat will be September 29-30.

Come to youth group to find out more!
