Galatians

We have been journeying through the book of Galatians over the last couple months on Wednesday nights. It has been an interesting time and has produced some very good discussions during small group time. Our challenge for you this week is to read through Galatians chapter 4 and 5. As you read through it answer these questions:

-What parts of these verses stick out to you?
-Which verse of chapter 4 or 5 is your favorite? Why?
-Why do you think these chapters important?
-What is God saying to you through these verses?

Go ahead and answer these questions in a comment on this post. Also, don't forget to comment about what color scheme you would like to see on the blog! (see blog posting from Tuesday, May 11). Have a great weekend!

    ???
    I'm confused.
    Galatians 4:30
30 But what does the Scripture say? "Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman's son."

Is he implying that we give up on the non-believers and the persecutors? I thought we were to do the exact opposite of that.
    ...?

    i love this,

    Galatians 5:14
The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

this ringing any bells? the golden rule perhaps? i don't get how people can disbelieve the bible when there are so many ... similarities, truths, facts ... sitting right there in front of them.

but i still like this verse.

    sorry,
last comment of the night i swear. (even i need sleep before Sunday)

here's my favorite verse(s) from the reading.

    Galatians 5:22-23,25-26
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. ... Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

    k, you've all been great,
    GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE!

  4. Hey Erica, I would say that the whole area of that slave woman and free woman is talking about people who are in slavery. The whole chapter is about the Law, or Old testament. In context with the whole chapter and book, is talking about the law and freedom. When I read it, it seemed to talk about how the Law wasn't from the promise, Freedom was from the promise. Christ was our promise of freedom. The law was bondage: Galatians 3:23,24 23Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. 24So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ[h] that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. So I don't think its talking about ignoring the unbelievers, its talking about something different. I don't know for sure, if anyone dissagrees feel free to tell me why. :)

  5. I was a little confused about that part too.
But I think I get it now. I forgot the fruits of the spirit were in Galations.... I never really thought about them, but I think I might look into those more now.

    like a flow chart?
    law>children>slaves>JESUS>sons>heirs.

    Under the law we were as slaves;
with Christ we have become heirs.

"God has made you also an heir" because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts.

Erica keeps me on my toes.

Focus on the "dos" and your back WILL always be toward the "don'ts" No turning back.
