Bayside Bowl VI is this coming Sunday!!!

2011 Bayside Bowl Champions - Team Sparky

Excitement is building as our 6th annual Bayside Bowl is approaching. This coming Sunday, January 29th, from 3pm-6pm. We will have the annual football tournament, games in the youth room, and games in the fellowship hall. This will include video games, foosball, air hockey, ping pong and much more. We will also have FOOD! It is going to be a blast! All students in 5th-12th grade are welcome to join us. ANYONE is welcome to join the football tournament. We will split the teams up evenly and have a great, fun, and competitive tournament.

For a little history lesson - here is a look back at our Bayside Bowl. This includes results, champions, MVPs and fun facts:

In 2007 we started a tradition in our youth group with the Bayside Bowl. It started as an event for our youth to come and hang out on a day off from school. But now it has evolved into one of our biggest annual events. We have had many students and adults participate in the Bayside Bowl. Every year has been different but it always is a lot of fun. And every year the championship game has come down to the final plays.

Bayside Bowl I was on February 8, 2007. We had 3 teams battling for the new Bayside Bowl trophy. (The trophy was either a bowl or flower vase that I picked up from Goodwill for a total of 75 cents! But just imagine what it is worth now!) On that day the temperature was 13 degrees and there was very little amounts of snow. In the championship game the Nation of Domination defeated Well Oiled Machine by a score of 42-37. Well Oiled Machine had taken the lead on a touchdown and 2 point conversion with about 1 minute to go. However, the Nation scored on a long touchdown pass to win the game late. Tommy Casper was voted the Most Valuable Player.

Bayside Bowl II was on February 7, 2008. This year there were 4 teams participating, there was much more snow, and the temperature was 20 degrees. Both the defending champions Nation of Domination and Well Oiled Machine were returning. It was Well Oiled Machine that absolutely dominated the first round of games, winning all three games by a combined score of 53-0! They met up in the championship with the Nation of Domination once again. And it was another classic. The game ended up tied at 28-28. In overtime the Well Oiled Machine stopped the Nation on the first possession and then scored a touchdown to win 34-28. Tyler Tollefson was voted the Most Valuable Player.

Bayside Bowl III was on February 12, 2009. We had the most teams ever participating as 5 teams played on a day that was cold and icy. There was minimal snow and the temperature was 15 degrees. This year there were no first round games as it ended up being a double elimination tournament. Once again the Well Oiled Machine dominated play and earned its way back into the championship game, this time against the Saints. It was a close game but the Well Oiled Machine held the lead throughout the game. The Saints scored a late touchdown but failed the 2 point conversion and the Well Oiled Machine hung on to win 26-25. Tommy Casper was voted the Most Valuable Player in a losing effort as the Saints quarterback.

Bayside Bowl IV was on January 30, 2010. It was the first time the event was held on a Saturday. The temperature was 13 degrees and there was a small amount of snow. There were 4 teams competing and it marked the return of the Nation of Domination. In the first round the Nation returned with style, winning all three games. Once again they faced off against the Well Oiled Machine in the championship game. The Nation led throughout the game and held off a late comeback by the 2 time defending champions to win the game 36-32. Tommy Casper was once again voted as the Most Valuable Player.

Bayside Bowl V was held January 29, 2011. Once again it was a Saturday afternoon, this time there was plenty of snow (about 15 inches) and the temp was 25 degrees. We had three teams competing for the coveted Bayside Bowl trophy. In the championship game Team Sparky defeated The Terminators 22-21 with a two-point conversion after a late touchdown. Megan Tunell became the first ever female winner of the Bayside Bowl AND was voted as the Most Valuable Player.
