We had another amazing Bayside Bowl on Sunday. The weather was perfect as it was a sunny day, no wind, 18 degrees, and we had some snow on the ground! We had the most students ever at a Bayside Bowl and the most to ever play in the football tournament! We also had dodge ball, soccer, video games, air hockey, foosball and many other indoor games. AND we had amazing home made pizza, cupcakes, brownies, and pop! What a great day! Thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed our sixth annual Bayside Bowl. Here is the report from the football tournament:
Once again I am amazed that every year we have such good competition and close games. This year was the closest the tournament has ever been. All four teams could have won the Bayside Bowl. There were three tie games in the first round. And once again the championship game came down to the last play!
In the first round each of the four teams played the other teams once. Here are the results:
Team Extreme - 8
Stars - 8
Green Giants - 8
Zakk Attack - 8
Team Extreme - 13
Zakk Attack - 13
Green Giants - 7
Stars - 6
Green Giants - 14
Team Extreme - 0
Stars - 15
Zakk Attack - 13
After the first round we determined playoff seeds based on these standings:
1. Green Giants 2-0-1 (+15)
2. Stars 1-1-1 (+1)
3. Zakk Attack 0-2-1 (-2)
4. Team Extreme 0-2-1 (-14)
In the playoffs it was Green Giants vs. Team Extreme and Stars vs. Zakk Attack. Team Extreme pulled off the upset as they beat the Green Giants 14-12 after stopping a late 2-point conversion. In the other game the Stars dominated Zakk Attack and easily won 24-0. The championship would be Team Extreme vs. Stars.
In the championship both teams played great defense. The Stars scored first and converted for an 8-0 lead. Team Extreme came back to score and convert to tie the game at 8-8 with little time remaining. The game would go into overtime and both teams scored and took the free extra point in the first overtime to make the game 15-15. To start the second overtime, Team Extreme scored again and chose to take the free extra point for a 22-15 lead. The Stars scored on their possession but chose to go for 2 points and win the game. However, Team Extreme made the tackle at the goal line and left the Stars 1 yard short of victory. Team Extreme won 22-21 in 2 overtimes! Members of Team Extreme were Mike Casper, Casey Canfield, Noah DiPuma, Tina Lurndal, Philip McCotter and Max McKenzie. Mike Casper was selected as the most valuable player. In the tournament Mike had 4 touchdown passes, 2 touchdown catches, a touchdown run and an interception returned for a touchdown. Great job Mike!
Some other highlights included Grant Hanson scoring the most touchdown catches with 5. Nathan Tunell and Bryan Gibson were right behind him with 4 each. Scott Paulson had the most touchdown passes with 8, Kyle Casper had 6, and Zakk Grandahl had 5. We also had lots of girls play this year, which made it all the more awesome. Tina Lurndal became the second girl to ever win the Bayside Bowl. Last year Megan Tunell won and was the MVP.
Overall it was a great event. Hope you all enjoyed it. For more pictures check out our Facebook page. Thanks to Morgan Peterson who took all the pictures!!!
